Figurative Language

Idioms, palindromes, similes, metaphors, oxymorons,.....etc.  Figurative Language makes what we say and write more descriptive.  What is your favorite figure of speech or type of figurative language?  Why do you enjoy using it?  What would stories be like without figurative language?  If you can think of a new palindrome phrase or riddle, then share it with us.

Make sure your response is at least 6 sentences and you check your grammar and spelling.

  1. My favorite type of figurative language is palindromes. I like palindromes because they are fun to try to come up with. Without palindromes in stories it would be ok, but I think palindromes make it funny. A palindromes that we haven't said in class is "evil olive" it was in a book I was reading once. When palindromes are sentences that makes it cool to like "rats live on no evil star" I thought that one was cool! Overall palindromes make stories a lot better!

  2. My favorite type of figurative language is probably a simile. My favorite is a simile because it can be fun and silly. Like, My dog is as big as a house. Or My cat is as big as a bus. If stories had no figurative language the stories might becoming boring. That's why simile is my favorite.

  3. I like palindromes the most vout of all of figurative language. I like them because some people don't know any. I also like it because some people think it is imposible to make an entire sentence a palindrome and it is fun to show them. I like them because it is sort of a challenge to find them. A palindrome that i know is, a santa at nasa.

  4. Out of figurative language, my favorite is oxymorons. I like them the best because I like the name. I also like how they contradict each other. I like using them because they sound funny like curved line. How could it be a line, but curved if a line is straight? I think stories would be less vivid and detailed without figurative language.

    My palindrome riddle

    Q: What is never even?
    A: A palindrome

  5. My favorite figurative language is Idioms. I love using them because most of them are so funny like the "The Big Cheese". Yes, Brennan I stole your Idiom. I enjoy using idioms because they catch your eye. Plus a lot of them are pretty funny. Stories would be really boring because there would be no eye catching phrases or funny phrases either.

  7. My favorite figurative language is palindromes. Because, they are really cool and they can also be read forward and backward! Palindromes are also really cool because they can be in words, numbers, and even phrases! Like rats live on no evil star and 1221 and Hannah and mom and dad! I really enjoy all figurative language but I really enjoy palindromes.

  8. First I'm going to start off with the question. Why was the math book so unhappy. Come to me for the answer. Now I'm going to do the rest of the blog.I like using figurative language because I think it's funny. Like when Miss. Preston was saying some of the puns. (Its a good thing I know sign language; It comes in handy.)That was funny stuff. Also my favorite figurative language is idiom.

  9. My favorite is Idiom. They are funny and sometimes even just serous. My favorite one is "who cut the cheese". I think it is funny and Good. There are sad ones and not good ones but if there was a choice I would choose "Who cut the cheese". A book without at least one Figurative Language is (in my case) not a book. I would not check or look at that book because there will be no point. Which one would you choose?

  10. I like oxymoron's because they can be really funny. my favorite is probably ClEarLy ConFUsEd. :P I also like palindromes because its weird that words like racecar are actually one. I can't choose a favorite Figurative Language, they're all to good!

  11. my favorite is a palindrome. I like palindrromes because it is pretty cool that numbers, ords or even whole phrases can be the same forwards and backwards! To me, that's pretty unique. I don't think stories would be the same without, because it is always fun when you are reading, then all of a sudden, "HEY, THAT READS THE SAME THING FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS!"

  12. My favorite figurative language is palindromes. I like it because it gets hard(like the 89 number we did) but its easy(like mom, dad, ect.) I also like it because my name is a palindrome! Alex shared one that really like,"Rats live on no evil star." I also like Ryan's but I forgot what it was. Life should be different without figurative language. Because I couldn't have the name Hannah, I couldn't call my mom, mom, I couldn't call my dad, dad and yeah.

  13. My favorite figurative language is palindrome. I like the palindrome because it's always fun to come up with more. It's also great to come up with riddles using palindromes. Without figurative language, the world would probably look like Kansas in the Wizard of Oz. (Not that Kansas looks like that now) Which isn't good. Books would be boring, and there would be no TV shows! It'd be like a Fairly OddParents episode where they change something that has a much bigger impact on the world than they thought.

  14. My favorite type of figurative language is oxymoron. I like it because its fun to say and makes sense even though the two contradictory terms. Stories without figurative language would be very boring. You see them all the time and don't even realize it. You wouldn't be able to picture things the way we do without them. There would also be no eye-catching phrases, either.

  15. My favorite figurative language is personification. I like it because it can be funny. Also personification makes it easy to write stories that use teddy bears or pencils. If the world didn't have figurative language it would be fine. I know some people use figurative language but it wouldn't be the end of the world if we didn't have it. It's fun and everything but there is other things we could use instead of figurative language.

    P.S.
    I found some palidromes:

    Do geese see God

Was it Eliot's toilet I saw

    Never odd or even

    Some men interpret nine memos

    Don't nod

    Too bad - I hid a boot

    No trace; not one carton

Doc note: I dissent. A fast never prevents a fatness. I diet on cod.

  16. My favorite type of figurative language are oxymorons. I like them because they make sense and don't make sense at the same time. Without them we wouldn't have frozen hotdogs or seriouly funny jokes. Stories without figurative language would be not as creative or fun to read. A new palindrome is "Never odd or even".
You could also do "Was it Eliot's toilet I saw."

  17. My favorite type of figurative language is palindromes. I love palindromes because they are the same forwards and backwards. Now I can look at them and be like,"ERMYGERSH!!!PERLINDREM!!"(Oh my gosh!!! Palindrome!!) With out them stories would be the same but no ones name could be Hannah or Anna. And NO RACECARS!!!!!! A palindrome I found was "Madam, in Eden I'm Adam."

  18. My favorite figurative language is the palindrome. Palindromes are my favorite because in math it is fun to find palindromes. I think writing would be the same without palindromes because it is just the same backwards. Palindromes can be really fun to find in books as welll as math. That uis why Palindromes are my favorite figuritave language.

  19. My favorite figurative language is the palindrome. Why I like the palindrome is I think it is cool to spell words backwards and forwards. My favorite palindrome is "a man, a plan, a canal, Panama". Another reason I like palindromes is that I can communicate in code if the other people were not aware of them. A secret agent would be able to make great use of this type of figurative language and so would a spy. I am surprised they have not made a board game using palindromes.

  20. My favorite figurative language is the palindrome. I like it because it's cool how phrases can be read forwards and backwards. It's also fun coming up with them. It may be hard coming up with one, but it's still fun to think of some. I do know a palindrome that is read the same forwards, backwards, right side up, and upside down, and that word is " noon " ( it's read the same upside down and right side up if the "n"s are capitalized) It's a lot easier to come up with palindrome words and numbers than phrases.

  21. My favorite figurative language is puns. Why this is my favorite figurative language is because its kind of cheesey and funny. It's really fun when you have to think a while on one, and then finally get the joke and be like, " Oh That is really funny! Another reason I like Puns is because its the type of figurative language to cheer someone up when they are sad. The cheesiness of the pun could surly crack a smile! The last reason I like puns is because also like Palindromes, its challenging to think of a good one!

  23. My favorite figurtive language is palondrone. This is my favorite because it is spelled the same forwards and backwards. Some examples are rats live on bo evil star, and 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001, and there are tons more. I like many different figurtive languages nut this one is my favorite. I wish there were more figurtive languages so we can learn more.

    More examples
◦Mr. Owl ate my metal worm
    ◦No lemon no melon

  24. What's my favorite figurative language. Mine is puns. They're funny and a good challenge to think of. After all that thinking when you finally get it you feel greatly rejoiced. Though puns are great palindromes are at a close number two. It is really cool how some phrases can read forwards and backwards. Without figurative language everything would be pretty dull and unexciting for the reader.

  25. My favorite type of figurative language is a simile. It is easy to understand. Moreover, I can show my stimulative feeling. My favorite Simile is "feel like a million dollars." I can use this phrase in case my father gives me $10 to buy a favorite flashlight when I have no money. I like this phrase because I love money and I like this feel.

  26. Palindromes are my favorite because they're just catchy and fun to think of. Also there are an Infiniti amount because numbers never end, therefore palindrome numbers can never end. Also I kind of just like the word "palindrome". It was pretty hard to decide over all the types of figurative language, oxymorons are really cool as well but palindrome beat them on my list. Anyways some examples of some palindromes are mom, dad, sis, rats live on no evil star, 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, 99, 111, 222, and an infinite more so I'll just rap it up there.

  27. My favorite type of figurative language is palindromes. I like them because it's cool that numbers, words, and phrases read the same forwards and backwards. The bad thing about a palindrome was when some of us tried to figure out that really long number that I totally forgot and can't even pronounce. If we didn't have figurative language in our stories, then they wouldn't be descriptive enough(obviously). Some palindromes are: A car, a man, a maraca - 100000000000060000000000001

  28. I am a big fan of of puns as you know or at least you should. If you did not know that I like puns then you sir or mam do not know me. Yes I say this because I enjoy listening to puns and making them up as I go along with my words. I have some examples such as when you see someone being electrocuted it is quite a shocking thing to see. I could go on with these for a long time if I wanted to. Yup so I like puns and I hope that you do to!

  29. The one I am doing is palindrome. The reason I pick this one is because it is really fun to use and it is challenging. You can use them in numbers and you can use them with letters. They are like 111111111,12921,mom,dad. You can also use them in a sentience like, God saw I was dog. That is what a palindrome is for yooy.

  30. I choose Alliteration because I'm good at making them up, they're funny, and if you do it right then it might become one that spreads around. Like one that I just made like 2 weeks ago, Jimmy Juggles Giant Jugs Jammed with Jam. Like it could never end!
You could make one last for like 10 paragraphs.
Also they never get boring to make, since I'm wacky in all, they fit perfect for me! So that's why i chose Alliteration! (NO PUNS OR PALINDROME!!)

  31. My favorite type is oxymorons! I like oxymorons because the word oxymoron is really fun to say! I also like them because they are funny like Big Baby! Tiny Elephant! Stuff like that. Stories would be so boring without figurative language, figurative language makes a story upbeat and hilarious!

  32. If I had to choose to from all the figurative languages, I would choose palindrome. Why I would choose palindrome is because its the easiest to figure out and the easiest one to notice. Its the easiest to notice because its just like, MOM, DAD, RACE CAR, RATS LIVE ON NO EVIL STAR, etc. You can use palindromes in everything or almost everything like books, paragraphs, memoirs, etc. They never get boring or hard to do. So that's why I would choose palindrome. There are also way more reasons why I chose palindrome, a lot more reasons.

  33. If I had to choose. I would choose pun because they are funny. Without them there would be less jokes in the world AND NOBODY WANTS THAT!!! THERE ALREADY BARLEY ANY JOKES IN THE WORLD!!! Let’s talk about rights and lefts. You’re right, so I left.So theres an example.

  34. My favorite type of figurative language is and idiom. I like it because it's normally funny. I don't like puns though. My favorite saying is "The Big Cheese". It's really fun to say because I like cheese a lot. Another one, the second best, is you drive me up the wall. It's fun to picture in your head, a person angry driving a gravity car.

  36. My favorit figurative langue is onomatopoeia . I like it because you can scair people using it. I also like it because they are fun to use. I use them all the time on my brother. If there was no such thing as onomatopoeia life would not be as fun. And that is what figurative langue I like the best.
