Winter Break

As winter break fast approaches, what are you most looking forward to?
Is it spending time with family, a vacation that you are going on, or something else?
Explain why this is important to you and why you can't wait for it to happen.

I don't want to hear about a gift that you are wishing for, I want to know more meaningful items.
Take your time and think about things that are special to you and why you are looking forward to them.

Riddles

Riddles are a great way to increase our thinking and to think outside of the box.

Try and answer these riddles:
1. What gets wetter and wetter the more that it dries?
2. What is black and white and read all over?
3. I have holes in my top and bottom, my left and right, and in the middle. But I still hold water. What am I?
4. What can you catch but not throw?

What is the best riddle that you know? Share it with your classmates and try to answer each others riddles as well.

Exploring the World

In social studies we have been talking about explorers. They went out in search of new areas of the world in order to bring back tea, spices, and other riches to their country.
Why was it important for countries to get out and stake claim to land for their king or queen? Why did they need such skilled sailors, navigators and map makers on the expeditions?

Please be complete in your answer and you can always agree or disagree with what others have already stated and continue your thinking from their response.
