In social studies we have been talking about explorers. They went out in search of new areas of the world in order to bring back tea, spices, and other riches to their country.
Why was it important for countries to get out and stake claim to land for their king or queen? Why did they need such skilled sailors, navigators and map makers on the expeditions?

They needed skilled people like that because they specialize in that so wouldn't crash on rocks or something, and also to help you find where to sail and and to guide the way so you know where land that hasn't been explored yet.
ReplyDeleteIt is important to have good map mackers, sailers, and navigators because if you didn't have a good mapmaker you wouldn't have good and skilled maps. If you didn't have a good navigator you wouldn't know where to go. if you didn't have a good sailer you would not know how to steer.
ReplyDeleteIt was important for countries to claim land for their king or queen because if other countries claimed all the land and you didn't have any of it you couldn't start new colonies and other countries would have more trade routes then over come your country. It also was important to have skilled sailors, navigators and map makers because the skilled sailors could sail in rough seas better than other sailors. You would need navigators to plan out the journey and you would need a map maker to map out the journey for other sailors and explorers.
ReplyDeleteThey needed skilled map makers to be accruate on where everything is. For the exporers the needed to be skilled so they dont ever not return. Thats why the kings and queens need good explorers.

First of all, the sailors need to have a good sence of direction to get back to their home land to tell the king and queen where new land is or return with tea and spices. The sailors have to be very strong sailors to row the small boat for hours.
It is important for countries to claim land for their king or queen because you would want to have more land than other countries.You need to have good mapmakers to know where to go and to chart the land they visit. You need good navaigators to know where to go and you need good sailors to know how to sail the ship correctly

You would also have more to trade. You need to have good mapmakers so you can know where to go and not go the wrong way and they needed skilled sailors so they could travel through the rough storms so they wouldn't get shipwrecked.

ReplyDeleteThe king and queen needed to claim land because if they got into a tough battle they would be prepared for whatever hit them. They would also need to claim land so they could have more spices, riches, food, and wonders. They would need skilled sailors because they would be able to take on the raging waters and find new land to claim easily. Next, they would need navigators so they can find where to go and not get lost. Finally, they would have mapmakers so they can keep track of where they went, make maps because most likely they are going to want to go farther and if they did not have mapmakers they wouldn’t know were they went.
ReplyDeleteThey could expand and enrich their Countries. It was important to have those skills because if you don't have the navigater you won't know were you go. The map maker is good to have because if you don't you won't have someone to see and make the land you have found.
ReplyDeleteI think the King and Queen need skilled sailors because... They cant do it them selves because they hane a kingdom to rule. They also need skilled sailors because if their not skilled they wouldn't get what they want fast enough. Finally, they also need them because they need to be able to find stuff quicker in case its far away and sailing is quicker than walking.
ReplyDeleteI think it is important to have good map makers because if you got a selfish and not very good map maker then he might got the distance wrong or what something looks like. Plus i also think that you need skilled sailors because they might do something horrible to the ship and everything is going to go wrong. They might not know everything if they are not a good sailor.All of this they need to have to be able to trade and have routes to trade for spices and all sorts of things.

ReplyDeleteit was important because the map makers were people that you had to trust. They were making maps to places you do not even know where it is. it was important to go stake out land for the king and Qween so they would not get mad at you and have more land for themselves.

ReplyDeleteIt is important to have very skilled sailors so they don't get lost and know where they're going. But, the only way to be a successful sailor is if you have a good map to use so you can reach your destination. They also need to stake land because you need to be able to have land to be claimed so if another state wants that land you can get money eventually for that land you claimed and then get a bigger piece of land with the money you got added with some of the money you already have! All of these things link on to eachother so it helps out your country have more population. This also makes the king and queen happy! Everything is an important souce for expeditions and I like how they all work together!
ReplyDeleteIt is important to stake out the land before the other countries or explorers get there so that you have the land and if there are tea leaves or gems or gold there then you would have them and not another country and then if another country wants the land for a high price then you can sell it to them and get a lot of money or gold. It is also important to have good mapmakers because if you don't then they will draw a map that is inaccurate and your sailors would go off and go to a place that the mapmaker said was Asia or an island that had silk or spices or tea and you sent your sailors and all that was there was ocean and no island or tea or spices. If you have good sailors them they probably won't get lost and they will know where they are going. All of these things lead to a happy king or queen!

If you don't have any power, other countries could take over and rule you. It is good to have a lot of gold, tea, and spices because then other countries will want to trade with you and you would get an advantage. Also, if you didn't have good map makers, they could draw something that is incorrect and the sailors would go off course. When sailors go off course it can be really bad because they can't always come back. They could also maybe get caught in a storm. The king and queen aren't probably very happy when they find out that their sailors aren't coming back. Would you be happy if you had no sailors? Then they wouldn't have anyone to send out and look for land to claim. They needed skilled sailors to go on expeditions because if the sailors weren't skilled they might not know exactly what to do while they are sailing. Navigators were good to have on expeditions because they could navigate where they were and they would not get lost. I think that learning about how sailors found land like Newfoundland is really great because you know how your home was discovered. Or at least other pieces of land. If I were them I wouldn't like getting lost. I wouldn't even like going sailing on a course no one has ever been on before.

And they also needed good sailors so they will not have a ship wreck! And that would not be good because they would not have made it to the new land.
