In social studies we have been talking about explorers. They went out in search of new areas of the world in order to bring back tea, spices, and other riches to their country.
Why was it important for countries to get out and stake claim to land for their king or queen? Why did they need such skilled sailors, navigators and map makers on the expeditions?
Please be complete in your answer and you can always agree or disagree with what others have already stated and continue your thinking from their response.
It is important for countries to claim land because if you are from that country, and show up there, you won't get hung or get into trouble. They needed skilled sailors because, they have to be trustworthy to take a shipful of people. They also have to be able to provide food. You also have to have acuurate maps because you should be able to get to the place where you are trying to reach a goal. It is always helpful to have a compass or a co-captain.

I loved learning about the explorers and how they traveled!It was important to claim land because they did not know how much land was out there. Anther reason is the more land they could find the better because they did now know when someone else would come and take there land,and they wanted to make the queen and king happy.They needed skilled sailers because the waters would be rough and there would be long hard trips so they had to strong.It was so important that they had map makers because they had to make a map for the next people on the expeditions,and so the sailers could find there way to they right place

I think it was important because tea, spices, and money where very "in need for" the kings and queens. Sailors where very important because they need to navigate, find, and explore throughout where they lived AND far away. Tea was a drink that many people drank and still drink today, it's very popular. Spices are salt, you put it on food to make it better. Money keeps our government, community and LIFE together.

I think that the explorers do that because if you can claim something you will know one day that you will become famous. Also, because the king or queen will praise you form finding this. They needed skilled sailors because they want you to returned good so they can send you out on another journey. You should also have good Crüe members so if you get stuck somewhere you will have people with you. Also,it would be cool to be a Crüe member because you can say," Oah yah I sailed with him!!"

It was important for explorers to stake land for their country because some people wouldn't live in their country and would be living either in Europe, Africa, or Asia. They needed a skilled and experienced crew because if they came back to explore and the map makers horrible, they might crash into something. They needed a good captain to give orders and direct them through tough times. They needed a great navigator to say where to turn and what was what. Explorers are important because we might not be living here in the United States.

It is important to claim land for those explorers because if their whole country goes out to that land they won't get in trouble or get hung to their missouri. Another reason is they might get a gift from their king or queen or both. They country needed such skilled sailors because the sailors could sail the monarchs to their new land without being harmed because the sailor is so good he/she could dodge all the dangerous turns. they need such skilled explorers so the explorers could find gold and the kingdom will be come rich. Also the explorers could find land also and spread their country around. Hope you learned a lot from me!

It is good to claim land for your country because then you will have some place else to live then the place you live at. It will not be so crowded.You need to have skilled sailors,navigators,and map makers so you don't get lost.also it is good to have skilled people so your country will be popular.then You can get more people to live there!

If you had more land then you would be considered more powerful, because we think puny Rhode Island is so weak. If the Pilgrims and them didn't find America then we would all be in England under the queen. If there wasn't salt then there would be absolutely nothing to put on your French fries. Yuck! No gunpowder would mean that we would be fighting in wars with swords and axes and bow and arrows like Lord of the Rings. No coal would mean that there was nothing to power trains. Just imagine that. Paper money. No paper money would mean that we would have our pants falling off in front of our boss when we get our salary. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

They needed skilled sailors so they all knew were they were going. They also needed people to draw maps so the next explorers knew were they were going also.

Also the king and queen were the people sending them on this trip and paying for it all. They needed such skilled sailors because they what to do to get to the destination safely, quickly and swiftly. They needed skilled sailors, navigators, and map makers so how ever goes on the trip next could add on and go the same path. These trips weren't like vaction trips they were like you live or die. They wanted such skilled sailors because they needed as much help as they could get and it’s hard work to be a sailor so they needed really strong people. A boat is no place for families. I think some skits for the asia commercials were SUPER FUNNY by the way. A really funny one was Xamoi's commercial. I would give it to thumbs up!! I hope we can make up more funny skits like thoose ones, they were fun.

The kings and queens needed skilled sailers because without them people would not know where to go. The sailers would not know how to drive a boat for 4-6 months. they would need to know how to read a compass and a map. without knowing how to read a compass they would get lost. It is good to claim a country because you could get rich with gold, sliver, and copper. People from other countries can live in the new country. I would like to conquer a country some day.

It was important for countries to stake claim to other lands for their king and queen because the sailors didn't want to be executed because of disappointment of the monarchs. The sailors needed skilled sailors on their voyages because if there was a storm, the skilled could stear the ship to safety. They needed the navigators to read and see where the ship was sailing mainly bacause the skilled sailors needed to sail the ship. The crew was used for help around the ship like keeping the sails high or cooking the food and so on. The crew must not have had time for looking at maps. About the expedition people, they were used for satrxting a map, the passing it on to other sailors who were voyaging the same route. the also needed extra help keeping the goods aboard the ship from falling or tipping. I loved learning about the explorers and doing the fun skits.

It also expands onto their wealth so that they can build houses and other community buildings even possibly their king and queens kingdom. It was also that they could get materials such as food and possibly grains and water.
