Why do you think that it is important that we still celebrate MLK Day?
Why does his speech that he gave over 40 years ago still have meaning to us today? Why is it important that we keep it in mind that we can settle disagreements with words and not violence?
What can you do to help spread peace in your family, neighborhood, at school or anywhere else?
I think that MLK's speach still has meaning for us because, he is saying that all men are treated equal and nobody has different rights. I think it was really un fair what happened because just because we have different color skin doesn't mean we should be treated in a different way. We all have our rights and nobody can interfere with that. We are all Americans. And together no matter what color skin we have, what color our hair or eyes are, we are all Americans and are all united.

I think that it was good to have that day off because it was very important to dark skin people but also light skinned. Today it means a lot to us because we need to not settle our arguments with anger because great people can get hurt, including MLC. We can help spread peace my less bullying, fights, and judging someone. At home you could do something for your brother/sister that is kind. Remember it all starts with you!

I think it is important we celebrate MLK Day because it will remind the slave owners that you will be arrested if you slave the different. His speech still has a meaning to us because if gave the different freedom and let slave owners know that just because they have a skin tone doesn't mean we should put THEM to work. It's important to settle disagreements with words because with violence the innocent could get hurt and with words, no body is forsaken. WE can spread peace by not judging people by how they look, dress, or even skin. Just because they look different doesn't mean they should be slaved. Blacks are just as good as whites.

I think it is important to celebrate MLK because he made everyone equal. It didn't matter if you are dark skin or light skin. His speech is important because everyone is made equal. I think that is true. Go Martin Luther King!!

ReplyDeleteI think it is important that we still celebrate MLK day because he ended segregation and gave fair rights to everyone. His speech still has meaning to us today because if he didn't we would have different schools, different restaurants, even different neighborhoods just because skin color. It doesn't matter what color skin you are, it's not your fault. It is important we keep this in mind because he didn't give fair rights to everyone by not using violence. Something you can do at school is stand up to bullies. Everyone was created equal!

I think it is important that we still celebrate MLK day cause if we didnt I bet a lot of people wouldnt even know who this amazing person is. This speech from 40 years ago still has meaning because we remember him in a way where he was a hero but he also remeber as a very kind and generous person. It is important that we settle agreements with words and not violince. If we didnt have MLK we probably would've still ben fighting over color, either if you were black or white.

We celebrate MLK day because that is the day that Martin Luther King jr. gave his speech. Some of the words in that speech were I have a dream. His dream was to make peace in the world. For native americans and americans to become friends. And native american kids and american kids to be able to play with each other. We can spread the peace all over the globe by getting along with native americans.

I think it is important to celebrate MLK because he fought for colored peoples rights. It still has meaning to us today because if he did not give that speech then colored people and not colored people would not be friends. We know that we can settle disagreements with words and not violence because there are other ways to settle them.If you see people disagreeing with other people you could tell them not to settle this with violence.I am really glad that Martin Luther King Jr. gave his speech because if he did not give that speech then I would not be at Desert Trails.

I believe that if MLK had kept the speech inside of him so many people would still be treated unfairly. Like TODAY. RIGHT NOW. soo sad that that really happened.

DeleteAlso a lot of my friends would be bullied and depressed. I believe that is is good that we celebrate MLK day because he was a hero to many people.
DeleteSame as above
I think that Martin Luther King Day should be celebrated because he was a great man and changed America through many speeches. The only on I can remember is "I Have A Dream" because my history isn't good. But he was really famous and still is known throughout America, probably other countries too. I mean, we celebrate a holiday based on him for peet sakes!

I think it is important that we celebrate MLK day because we need to to remember how much he did.faught for so many things like rights for african american people. If you see people disagreeing with other people you could tell them not to settle this with violence. And native american kids and american kids to be able to play with each other.that why I think its important to celebrate MLK
DeleteI think it is important that we celebrate MLK day because he fought for civil rights and he stood up for African-American people. I think his speech still has meaning to us today still because he put a lot of meaning because he was protesting and he had a dream. It is important that we keep it in mind that we can settle disagreements with words and not violence because we don't have to fight over something like who gets to be at the front of the line because you can just take turns. there is different ways to settle it instead of just fighting. A way I could spread peace in my family is just ignore comments that my brother say to me that aren't nessasary instead of fighting with him.

I think we should take the day off because it reminds us not to be racist. I think the speech he gave to us 40 years ago still means something to us still because we would still have different stores. Different houses, neighborhoods, and restaurants. It is important to keep in mind that we can settle agreements by words instead of violence because it will get someone hurt and then you will regret punching/kicking them. No matter how much you're holding back always try to settle in words.

I think it is important to celebrate MLK day because Martin Luther King, Jr. fought for rights for African Americans and for everyone to be treated equally. The speech he gave still has meaning because there still are places in the world where people are not treated equally. People should remember to treat each other with respect even if they disagree. I can remember to do this and compromise with my brother and friends. Also, I can encourage others to compromise and be respectful with each others.

I think it is important that we celebrate MLK day because we need to to remember how much he did. Marten faught for so many things like rights for african american people & rights for girls to vote and much more. The speech he gave over 40 years ago still means a lot because he made a different billions of people and sent such a powerful message. It is important that we say how we feel and not be violent because he can acomplish way more if you talk about it.I cant even think how much are world would be different with out him and what he did thank you.

ReplyDeleteI hope everybody had a great MLK day i know i did. I think it is important that we celebrate this day because it is important to remember what he did. The speech is still important today because it help us stop a lot of racist people and the speech helps us remember him. It is important to handle fight with words and not fighting because if you fight someone gets hurt and it doesn't solve anything but if you use words nobody gets hurt and you solve the problem. I can tell MLK was a very good guy!!

It is important to remember MLK because of the sacrifice he made. He helped teach people that everyone is equal. Whether your skin color is black or white or any other color, we are all equal. His actions were peaceful and he used words and not violence to get his message across.

ReplyDeleteI think we celebrate MLK Day still after 40 years because Dr. King worked so hard and had so much courage to recite his speech, "I Have A Dream." I know he recited other speeches but "I Have A Dream" was the most insightful to me. But now, because of him, we all have come together and fromed one huge union. No one can tell people where to go or what drinking fountains to drink from. We are all the same in a way. That is why I think we still celebrate MKL Day.

We celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day because he changed our world as we knew it. He gave a speech that inspired people to treat everyone with respect and fairness. It is better to settle an argument by talking, not with violence. I can spread kindness by being kinder to my little sister. This is why we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

I think that it is still important that we celebrate MLK Day because it helps to remind us of a time when everyone was not considered equal. It reminds us to be greatful for the freedoms which we have. Martin's speech still has meaning to us today because we all can dream big. We need to believe that anything is possible if we just put our minds to it and work hard to achieve our goals. The things that we dream of can become a reality. It is important that we settle disagreements with words not violence because violence doesn't never solves anything and just leads to pain and suffering. We always feel like we have to get back at that person for what they did to us and it becomes a continuous cycle. When we settle disagreements with words, each side can be heard and understood and middle ground can be found and agreements can be made. I can help spread peace to others by stopping bullying when I see it, by only speaking kindly of others, and by not excluding others. It is important to be tolerant of others and their beliefs, religion, and race. We are all the same no matter what we look like.

We still celebrate this day as a sign that changed the United States as people knew it. His speech told us that all men are equal, and that the world doesn't have to be like that. I still believe that he was right with his speech. Otherwise, this wouldn't be a PUBLIC school.

Hi
We celebrate MLK Day because he had a dreem of equal rights, and he stuck with the same dream. His speech told us that we could change the world if we belived in him that things will be better. We deal fights now by using words insted of vilonce, because if we fight over something little and we do it with vilonce, then someone is going to get hurt. We can bring peace with are families by not fighting over every little thing. Its the same thing at school, in your neighborhood, and any where you can think of. We should all bring peace to the world.
ReplyDeleteGina #16<3:)
I think mlk day still has a meaning and that is who cares what you look like you should be treated equal black or white male or female. This speach made a long time ago still has a meaning because Martin Luther king jr. sacraficed his life for every one different then whites. You should argee with words not fighting because many inisent people die because of fighting. If you see a person black getting bullied stand up for them.
ReplyDeleteHarrison #23:)
I think that its important to celebrate MLK day because it is the day when black people got their independence. I also think that its important due to the fact that black people before MLK gave his speech. Another way how it is important is because it was also when nobody was treated the same way. I think that it is very important that we still celebrate MLK day to the day when everybody was treated the same way.
ReplyDeleteBrennan #2
I think it is important because he gave a very valuabale speech saying that each person should be treated the same way. It still has a meaning because today we treat people equally and its all because of him. It is important that we remember that because things don't always have to be settled with violence. people can just talk through them. I can start a nice conversation with someone in my community to make things more peacful.

DeleteIt was the day that colored people got there liberty. So we remeber the day that people have there freedom. So that nobody gets hurt. We can help by towing trash away and help the people in need.

It's better to settle disagreements with words and not violence because if we fight over something little someone will always get hurt. I can help spreed peace in my community by donating things to people who are less fortunete than me.
