Thankgiving

This is the time of the year when we gather with family and friends and spend time together. This week we will be off for 5 days to spend time with family and friends.

Tell us about your family traditions during Thanksgiving and what makes it so special for you. What are you thankful for this year and what do you hope will be better in the future?

Make sure your response is at least 6 sentences in length and check for conventions and grammar.

  1. What I'm thankful for is my friends and family. I am thankful for my family because they help me with my problems and they're always there for me. I'm thankful for my friends because THEY are always there for me and they help me with most of my problems and I can talk to them about anything. We don't really have a tradition but we gather most of my family and EAT. We usually have it at my grandmas house because she really likes to cook. My great grandma and great grandpa that live in California come to visit.

  2. There is no custom of Thanksgiving Day in Japan. I got to know about Thanksgiving Day for the first time. I'm thankful for Miss Preston and all the class members most. Since I came to the United States in May this year, I was not familiar with Desert Trails. But all of you helped me, explained to me kindly, and became my friends. I will learn English more and I need your support well. Thank you, everyone.

  5. My family gathers together at my house and we have a thanksgiving feast. Our tradition is that we say grace. I love it when we all have to say one thing that is good and what we hope for and what we are thankful for. I hope that in the future we will be able to share and get along really well. I love the food that my mom cooks. I never think that my mom's food is bad. She is one of the greatest cooks I ever new. We all have to take a dish of something to the table. I always love to get compliments on my food. I'm not a vary good cook. What do you do on thanksgiving?

  8. Well, every year we do something different but stick to the tradition. We normally buy tons of sparkling cider. I always stuff myself to the top till' I cannot even move. At least on cousin, uncle, aunt, nephew has to come to our house. This year I have my Grandma and Grandpa. I also have my uncle and his girlfriend coming over. I watch football all day and sometimes go to stores to get Black Friday sales. I am thankful for everything that has happened to me and the people long ago that sailed to America.

  9. Every year for Thanksgiving, my family always goes to another person's house and brings some food over there. We also always watch football. At least my cousin and my uncle do. They scream and cheer for even the opposing team! They get so worked up about it that last year they broke a vase. I am thankful for my friends because they make my life complete. Without them I wouldn't have a shoulder to cry on, a person to laugh with, and just someone to talk to. I am also thankful for my family. They always make me laugh and know how to cheer me up. I also am thankful for my brother. Some people don't like their siblings, but I love my little brother. He always makes me laugh and I share some of my secrets with him. He's just a great brother.

  11. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Mostly because its either on or near my birthday. My family has one or two traditions. Every year we play dodge ball in our backyard. We also hang a scarecrow up in our front yard every year. My favorite memorie is when my dad shoved my face into the pie on thanksgiving. I am thankful for my family who take care of me.

  12. One of our family traditions is to play games, like poker or monopoly. Which is really fun to do with your friends and family! We also watch the Snoopy Its Thanksgiving movie in my Granddads movie theater! This totally has not been the best year for me. We had to move, my Grandma is in the hostpital and wont be spending the holidays with us for the first time, and I just almost feel.... locked out. But I still am very thankful that I will get to be with my family this year unlike other families that can´t. One thing that I want better in the future, is well of course for my Grandma to get better, but to not always think that moving here was so bad. I mean, the weather is WAY COOOOOOLER here. So that´s a plus.

Our traditions are o watch the football game and eat until we are sick, (at least I know I do). I am thankful for my friends and family. I also am thankful for food and shelter. We have turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, special mashed potatoes with marshmallows, and last but not least, PIE! We have apple, pumpkin, cherry and sometimes rhubarb.

  16. For this Thanksgiving I think my grandparents are coming to be with us. I'm not sure who else will be joining us. I don't really have a Thanksgiving tradition; but I have a lot to be thankful for. Like 3 parents who care for me, 3 younger siblings, clothes, 2 houses, toys, video games, 3 dogs, a bed, food, family, and a doom buggy. That is a long list. I'm very lucky to have all these people and thing. Those are all the thing that make Thanksgiving special for me.

  17. Every year we do different things like go to Texas or Scottsdale for Thanksgiving and we go Black Friday shopping. Each year we switch off going to my Grandparents in Texas or my Grandparents in Scottsdale. We went to Texas last year, so were going to my Grandparents in Scottsdale this year. We make alot of food that we each stuff ourselves. Except for my sister because she never wants to eat half her plate. I am thankful for my family just coming to have Thanksgiving with me, no matter if only 2 people come, I'm still thankful that they came to spend time with me, my dad, my mom, and my sister. They put away there other plans to spend it with us.

  19. Our family tradition is that my cousins, the Roths, come and celebrate Thanksgiving with us. I wonder if some people don't celebrate. Each year I look forward to seeing them and spending time with them. The best part is the food. We have the best homemade bread and jam with the perfect turkey. My family and I tell stories of past Thanksgivings and crack a few jokes. This year I am thankful for my 2 new baby girl cousins. I am also thankful for finding a new house that we might be able to move to.

  20. Some of my family's Thanksgiving traditions are on Thursday we have a big meal with my Mom's parents. We always have a lot of food. We really have a good time. This is special because we have time to spend with our family. On Friday, instead of going Black Friday shopping, we have a big celebration with my Dad's parents and his many brothers and sisters. This is special because we have time to spend with family we normally don't see.

  21. Almost every year, my family meets with my cousins in California. Sometimes we go to them, they come to us, it doesn't matter but this year they're coming to us. My family (mom, dad, brother, & sister) doesn't meet with my family in Kansas because it's just too far of a trip.

  22. A special tradition for my family is whipped cream mustaches! It is hilarious watching people trying to eat whipped cream of there face! I am very thankful for friends, my family, a house, pets, education. Oh, and of course food. Something that I want to change in the future is bullying. Bullying is a big problem. I know how it feels to get bullied. It does not feel great. I hope that bullying will stop.

  23. My family's tradition is my grandparents come over and have a big feast, or we go to their house. Also my dad and grandfather watch football. They get really competitive. I am thankful for my friends, because they are fun to be around. Also my family, how helps me through hard times and supports me in good. I am also thankful for my little sister. We fight and play but she is my little sister. I have to look after her. The most important thing I'm thankful for is life. Your life gives you oportunities that you might understand or not. It's great!

  24. This year will not be the same, usually I am used to having Thanksgiving with my relatives. But not anymore because I now live in Arizona, in which has none of my relatives. I am also not doing the usual meal, this time we having a sort-of western Thanksgiving, with turkey drenched in some time of sauce, normal old stuffing, mashed potatoes, you know all that good stuff. The final thing that will be different is the arrangement,we had a huge dining table, but unfortunately we got rid of it before we moved. I think that we'll have to sit at our normal table now. But all this stuff isn't too bad, it's always good to try something new everyone once and a while, if we don't like it than there is always next year.

  27. My family enjoys all the things we do on Thanksgiving! First my family and I cook the food together because most of us love to cook. Next, we lay the food out on a special table that we only use on Thanksgiving because the holiday is very important to us. Then, we eat most of the food and put the rest in the refrigerator for another lunch or dinner. Finally, we all take a nap because we are so tired from all the food we ate!

  28. I don't have too many traditions for thanksgiving in my family. One of the few though is the amazing feast my mom makes for my whole family. It's really good! Something that I am thankful for this year is my huge, but amazing and lovable family. I wouldn't be able to live without them! They are one of the best things that have ever happened to me! I love them to death. Something that I hope gets better though is the homelessness, i feel that there should be more homeless shelters because people who can't help not having a home this season might not be able to make it through winter with the lack of warmth and food. That is what I am thankful for, my traditions and what i hope gets better this Thanksgiving.

-haley #25 :) i hope everyone has an awesome Thanksgiving!

  29. My family has a couple of traditions. We spend time together as a family and do something together. It's special to me because my dad isn't around a lot. I am thankful that I have a great family. I hope that bookstore stay open because a lot are going bankrupt. People are buying E-Books instead of papper copies. I know Barnes and noble is having a hard time. My guess is other stores are to.

  30. My family does not have many traditions on thanksgiving. Howeverwe do have a great and fun time together. Now I do not enjoy when people only cre about football rather than enjoying our time to talk to our family unlike screming YEAH TOUCHDOWN. Those people would rathegr watch a football game when you can see them every Sunday than take time to talk with your family and friends.
