Constitution Day

Over the last week and a half, you got to participate in several activities related to Constitution Day. Then on Wednesday, September 17th (Constitution Day) you go the chance to write part of the Preamble or Declaration on your own paper.

What did you think about the process of making the paper and ink? Did you enjoy having to write on the paper? What is easy or difficult to do?

What do you think the people that wrote the Constitution experienced while writing a note, a letter to a friend or even a story?

Was it as easy for people to get a lot written back in the day of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson?

Make sure that your answer is at least 6 sentences in length.
Check to make sure that you check for spelling and periods.

  1. I had a great time making paper and ink and writing on it during constitution day. Making paper and ink was a very messy experience but fun I personally enjoyed making the ink. We got to squish frozen berries and make a mess. The paper was not as much fun but I had a great time. The paper and ink was not a complicated process. I think the people who wrote the Constitution if they were to send you a letter I think it would be small and not as much work put into it because there hands might still hurt from writing the Constitution. It was not easy to get a lot written along time ago because for almost every letter they had to re dip there feather. #16

  2. I really liked making the paper and ink. My favorite part was making the paper because the newspaper felt weird on my fingers. The ink did not make a lot of ink with the berries. I think writing on the paper was my favorite part of the whole thing. I think it was not easy for people along time ago. I was hard even with the tools we had. But alone time ago they did not have good tools. Courtney

  3. I loved making paper and ink. My favorite part of the paper making process was feeling the goey newspaper feeling and the wet sogy feeling of it. The worst part about making the paper was sponging it because when ever I would press the spong on it it would make a soud that my ears did not like. My favorite part of the ink process was the sgushy cranberries on my fingers. My least favorite part was the coldness uggg that was freezing and that it could stane our shoes or cloths. I thought wrighting on the paper when it was dry was HARD cause you had to go over and over it till you coild see it perfectly. My favorite part was getting to first see the paper that we made and getting to exsperense what it was like back in the olden days. Tatum Vigilante #19

  4. My favorite part in Constitution Day was making the ink. I think that making the ink was really fun and also pretty cool. The berries was so cold me and my partner was having so much fun because I think the ink station was the most fun for me. Another reason that I like the ink station was also really cold and I like getting cold. While I was cold I got tons of berries on my hand so I put some on my partner and it was really really fun. The last reason that I like ink station is squishing it. That was the most fun part because it looks easy but it's not. It was so cool using my thumbs to squish the berries, using the other items on the table. And also the parents was really really nice. ~ Frances #7

  5. My favorite part of Constitution Day was making the paper and the ink.I liked making the paper and ink because the paper was mushy and the berries that we used to make the ink was so cold. The project was so fun because on Constitution Day we got to write on our paper with our ink. I also liked how we had a guest speaker to teach us about all the Constitution of america. The parents who helped were nice and really explained how to make the ink and paper. In the 1800s people made ink the same way we did but they wrote with Quills to write but we used chop sticks and Q-tips.

  6. My favorite part of constitution day was making the paper and the ink. I liked smashing the berries because they were cold and it felt weird on my hand. Writing on the paper with ink was harder than it looked it was so exhausting XL. I think it may have been easier to write back then because everyone knew how to use it. Making the paper was really fun because you had to pick up the stuff and get it on the sheet than dry it. When we were bringing the water to dump out into the toilet i got splashed with the water (the clean water) it was really fun. #6

  7. I thought making paper and ink was really fun. Yes, I did enjoy writing on paper. It was also really difficult to do because we used berry juice as ink! I think they experienced that it is hard but challenging to write how they wrote back in the day. I also think that they would want to have enough ink to write anything so they wouldn't have to make/get more ink. I don't think they got a lot written back in the day when Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were around.

  8. My favorite part of the day was making the ink and paper. I loved smashing the berries, they were very cold. I liked shredding the paper and letting it soak. I also enjoyed the person coming to the class and talking about the Constitution. I think that, back in those days, it was very hard for them to write a note or a letter. I think that they needed lots of berries and lots of paper. AA1

  9. My favorite part of the class was going to smash the berries. I also liked blending the newspaper, it was so weird and fun. The man who came to too talk to us was also really cool. I think it was hard to write back then, and to have the resources to do it. It could take months to get the writing to paper. So that is my summary of making paper and ink. ryan

  10. I really loved making paper and ink! It was a fun and definitely messy! I liked making the paper better because the ink smelled and was freezing on my fingers. I loved the feel of the newspaper on my hands though. The lawyer who came to talk to us was really interesting too. When we wrote with the ink on the paper it kept blending together! It was really hard. I think it took a really long time to write the constitution. I don't know if writing with the feather was easier though. It also could have been harder as well. I wish we could do it again! Emily #5

  11. I think that it was easy and hard to do the paper and the ink. The reason why is because that the blended news paper making part was difficult so we can write on the paper and how we have to try to make it not fall apart and break or rip so we have trouble writing on the paper. The most fun part was making the ink because we had to smash a bunch of berries and I got to do it with my friend Frances and my hands were a mess and the berries were freezing cold that my fingers were numb! I think it was really hard for Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson because I think that they were the ones who wrote the Declaration of Independence which that would have been a challenge for those two. I would not be alive back then because lots of people took off with diseases such as smallpox or other sickness. I can tell how much pain all those people went through back then because of the smallpox and no one was use to the disease so they would get to sick so then they will die. If I was alive back then it will be really hard so I don’t want to be alive in that time. I am lucky that none of my parents or family members that I live with was alive back then because I would not be able to be born from them and then I will never be existing in this world. I LOVE how we got to do the paper and ink because when the paper dried up then we got to write on the paper we made and use the berry ink and write a part of the Declaration of Independence and I got the same phrase as Courtney did too. I really love doing ink and paper for Constitution Day because it represents Arizona and it’s a great way to show how grateful everyone is for Arizona! Those are the reasons why I love Constitution Day and doing the Declaration of Independence to represent it.

My favorite part of making paper and ink was creating my paper because when I squished the berries into ink, my hands got really cold. It was funny when Daddy kept making berry puns during the ink station! I think it was easier for the Founding Fathers to write a lot of words, when they wrote the Constitution, because they didn’t have to use chopsticks or Q-tips like we had to. I can’t wait to show my family my paper that I made, and my heritage doll which was also on the bulletin board. I am also excited because I have the Declaration of Independence memorized! I think that Thomas Jefferson, the man who wrote the Constitution, enjoyed writing stories and letters to friends because if he wrote the Constitution, then he must like writing. As you can see, I had tons of fun on Constitution.

  13. My favorite part of the activity was when we squished the frozen berries and we got berry juice all over our self and made a huge mess. I also liked when we made our paper It was weird dipping wood into a bunch of newspaper and made paper that people used back then. We also got to write on our paper and it was hard and we used q-tips and popsicle sticks. I wonder if it was as hard back then but probably not they were used to it. I wonder how long it took to write the Declaration of Independence. I'm guessing one or two hours. I do wonder what it would've been like to be a kid my age. Sam McIntosh

  14. This is my perspective on making paper and ink. I liked making the ink because we had to constantly beat the berries with our fingers and after that our fingers numb and stained. I also liked making the paper because we had to put our hands in the shredded paper and it felt so mucky and slimey. But to me making both was pretty fun and easy. I think the people that wrote the constitution experienced with writing notes and letters etc that they maybe wrote a lot more sentences in paragraphs because they were used to writing in very long paragraphs because of the constitution. I don't think it was easy to write that much on a piece of paper in the olden days because now a days we can just type them up on the computer instead of writing. That's my perspective on the blog this week. #15

  15. I thought that paper and ink was fantastic when we got to smash slimy messy good looking berries in a cup and getting to write some of the Declaration Of Independence. My partner and I were so numb on our fingers we had to wash our hands contently in the bathroom. The next best part about paper and ink is when we had to make papers and clean the buckets out in the toilet and it looked disgusting. we all freaked out even the girls didn't flush the toilet because they were to grossed out and I was to. The paper was cool because we gt to choose a utensil either chop sticks or Q-Tips to write what the paper said on it like part of the Deceleration Of Independence. The ink also made me want to drink the juice because it looked like a fruit smoothie. It was so addicting I really want to make my own paper and ink at my house sometime.

  16. I thought participating in that activity was really exciting. Yes I did enjoy hand writing part of the preamble or the declaration. It was kind of difficult to do because I was using berry juice as ink. It was also kind of easy to do because we got to use cutipes as pencils! I think the people who wrote it experienced knowing what it is like to write on paper for a long time. I don't think it was easy to write a lot when Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin were around.

  17. I think it was fun making paper and ink. I also think it was fun writing on the paper. It was kind of hard to write on it. I think it would be hard writing the Declaration of Independence, because of all the reasons of freedom for America. I don't think it would be easy going to get the write materials for paper and ink and quills. That is what I think about Constitution day. Christian Enwia

  18. I think it was really fun to make paper and ink. I though that because I like getting dirty .I also like to make paper and ink because it was fun squishing the berries to make the ink because it felt cold and smelled delicious. It was also fun making paper and ink because the paper looked so like just gross slushie. The most fun I think is the making of paper because we tried to even it out move it and put as much paper as you can on it. If we could do that again it would be awesome.
